We all have off days during work but if it has been a long time since you felt passionate in what you do and any or all the below apply then it may be time to consider a change.
1. You've peaked in your position
You may be at the stage where you have mastered your position and can no longer improve on what you are delivering, leaving you feeling bored and unchallenged. If this is the case it leaves you with 2 options, you can move internally, or if 'sign number 2' is relevant then it may be time to look elsewhere.
2. You see no opportunity for promotion
No matter how you feel about your current position, it's very important to be able to see your next step. If you peak in your current position and then can't move up then it's very difficult to move to another company into that higher position that you want. You may have to move sideways and prove yourself before being able to move up. So, if you can't see the next step where you are, it's time to look elsewhere.
3. You've become a clock watcher
Clock, watch, phone, Fitbit, or sun dial, no matter what it is you use to check the time, if you're counting down the minutes just to leave the office and do anything else other than work then it's a sure sign you need a change. The opposite of "time flies when you're having fun" is all too true.
4. You struggle to take pride in what you do
A loss of passion and drive in what you do is a big a sign it's time to move on. It is important to address this quickly as this will most likely lead to inadequate performance which can have an effect on your team as well as future prospects.
5. You feel underappreciated
Feeling underappreciated at work can have a huge impact on you as a person, it is very disheartening and unmotivating to do work that you feel is not appreciated. This can lead to a negative effect on your work and your health so if this is the case and you are sure that what you are doing deserves appreciation then it is worth a chat with your managers and failing that, a look elsewhere.
What to do?
Some of the signs mentioned above can be addressed internally with more senior members within your company. If no one listens or no one wants to listen then it's a sign you need to make a change, and if you can't change how things are done where you are then it's most likely time to look elsewhere. Standing still will only have a negative effect on you and your career.
